JOB DESCRIPTION Bethany Lutheran Homes, is a financially sound, growing company in Western Wisconsin. We have an opportunity in La Crosse, WI for a detail and process-oriented individual to learn multiple areas of the business office. The individual in this position needs to be flexible with day to day assignments, willing to learn new roles and serve as backup to several key business office functions. There is great potential for long-term success and advancement within the corporation!

Basic Function:
The staff accountant will be responsible for assisting with bi-weekly payroll processing and gaining the experience necessary to serve as backup to the Payroll Specialist. This includes all payroll areas: processing timesheets, checking for accuracy, working with facility managers, submitting 401k and tax deposits, submitting unemployment compensation reports, reconciling and coding employee insurance bills, adding new employees, distributing pay remittances, annual W-2 preparation and more.

The staff accountant will learn and serve as backup to the Accounts Payable function. These responsibilities include the following: reviewing and coding invoices for payment, processing payments timely and accurately, working with facility managers, preparing daily deposits, picking up mail at the post office, and working with vendors to resolve billing issues.

Other duties include summarizing contracted labor hours, preparing payroll-based reports to Medicare, assisting with cost report preparation, financial statement preparation, 401k communications to participants, monitoring 401k for quarterly changes, working with Human Resources on Kronos timekeeper/payroll setup, posting of cash receipts, and other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting. Finance or Business degree may be considered based on experience and skills
  • Accounting or Business Office experience preferred but not required
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and ability to learn new computer programs quickly
  • Organized and very process oriented
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to handle occasional stress of meeting due dates and deadlines
  • Ability to work and problem solve independently
  • Professional communication abilities
  • Must maintain valid driver license and safe driving record
  • Insured personal vehicle required (mileage reimbursement applies)
